College Weekends in Charleston: A Home Base for CofC, Citadel, and MUSC Families
October 1, 2026 · The Fig House on Spring
From our front steps, the College of Charleston is an easy walk, and The Citadel and MUSC are a short hop across town. Families come to us for the weekends that matter: move-in, parents weekend, and graduation. Instead of splitting up across two hotel rooms, everyone stays under one 1852 roof, with a kitchen, a deep piazza porch, and room to actually talk.
One house, the whole family
Three bedrooms and two baths, sleeping up to eight, means parents, siblings, and the student all have a place to land without booking a second room down the hall. There is a full kitchen for the morning coffee before a campus tour, a living room for the late debrief after dinner, and that deep piazza porch for the in between hours. Guests tell us the porch is where the real conversations happen, which is the whole point of the trip.
Walking distance to campus, a short hop to the rest
We sit in Cannonborough-Elliotborough, which puts the College of Charleston within an easy walk. The Citadel and MUSC are both a short drive or rideshare across the peninsula, close enough that you can see your student in the morning and still make a lunch reservation. The one off-street parking spot means you can leave the car put and move around on foot for most of the weekend, which is the kindest way to do downtown Charleston.
The big weekends book out early
Move-in, parents weekend, and graduation are the same dates for thousands of families, and they fill the peninsula months ahead. If you already know your weekend, lock it in early. Booking direct with us means you are talking to the house, not a call center, and we can help you think through timing around campus schedules.
Where to eat while you are here
- Breakfast before a tour: Babas on Cannon or Daniela's Downtown, both a short walk away.
- Coffee and a pastry: Sugar Bakeshop on Cannon or Sightsee on Line.
- An easy lunch: The Pass for sandwiches, or Allora and Malagon right on Spring Street.
- A proper celebration dinner: FIG, Chubby Fish, Vern's, or Estadio when the news is worth marking.
A college weekend goes fast. Stay somewhere that keeps everyone together, puts campus within reach, and gives you a porch to sit on when the tours are done. We would love to be your home base for it.
